4.1 Life and Love in the Writings of John_New Testment Survey

Q 1. Read the entire Gospel of John in a standard translation of the Bible as noted in the syllabus. 2. In your textbook, Jesus is Lord, read Chapters 25 and 26. 3. Listen to the Lecture “Salvation in the Writings of John.” 4. Use Bible Study Tools to find one passage in John’s writings about life and another passage about love. You can limit your search to The Gospel of John or one of the letters of John. To do this click on the dropdown menu next to “Book”, scroll down, and then select John or 1 John or 2 John or 3 John. You can then enter “life” or “love” in the “Search the Bible” box and press “Find it!”. This will generate a list of passages with that term that you can sift through and read. You will need to look in at least two different books (e.g., John and 2 John) to get a good sample.

34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another” (John 13: 34-35, New International Version) Loving one another is a reflection of loving the dear God, as who are God’s true disciples, never shy away from loving one another selflessly, and this love should be pure and genuine, as God loves us, because a love that is pure, is a love that is in the light of God. This is how we can actually bask in the love and light of God, though true devotion and love for His creation, as selflessly as possible.
